I feel awful today. My throat is raw. I'm congested and I feel like crap! Why do you only get sick when you can't afford the time to indulge in being miserable?
I've started with my floor first. Even though I will probably use more or less the same colors for the entire castle, because I work in "sections" (outer walls, inside walls, quoins & crenellation, inner turret room & stairwell), the finish will always be slightly different.
I used a basic "country maple" color for the entire floor and applied at least 8 or more washes over top, working from dark to light. Each wash was daubed on using a small piece of natural sponge. Remember to let each color dry before adding the next one... With that many washes, you don't have to be very precise with your colors.
If you're going to work this way, don't forget to cover each finished section before starting on the next.
This is the main wall for inside the stairwell. I've painted the "grout lines" with a mixture of black & burnt umber to help emphasize each individual stone. If you're making your stonework look this old, remember that back then they either set one stone (cut precisely) onto the next or their grout was made from the same material as their stones.

Your stone effects are very good. I'm enjoying your progress with this.
ReplyDeleteIt´s amazing!!!
ReplyDeleteLooking good.
ReplyDeleteThe colour washing looks fabulous. I just can't get this technique right at all. Everytime I try it my piece ends up the last colour I put on without any variations at all.
ReplyDeleteLooks fabulous Karin! I hope you feel better soon ♥
